A Fox News anchor was gobsmacked to learn that the health insurance CEO shooting suspect now in custody on weapons charges is the cousin of a Maryland official.
Police in Altoona, Pennsylvania arrested 26-year-old Luigi Mangione Monday after a McDonald’s employee recognized him from media coverage and called 9-1-1. New York City police were on their way to Pennsylvania to question the suspect in the shooting death of 50-year old UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan last week.
On Monday afternoon’s America Reports, Sandra Smith reported on the “new twist in the story.”
“This just into the newsroom, the suspect’s cousin is a Maryland state delegate. We obviously just heard from the police commissioner that this person of interest is from Maryland. So, this has now been confirmed: The suspect’s cousin is Maryland state delegate, Antonio D. Mangione, goes by Nino. Our news team just got off of the phone with his office. They said they will have a statement shortly.
“This goes back to the question, how is it possible there wasn’t anyone, anywhere in the country who was saying, ‘That person is in my family! I know that guy!'”
Former FBI Investigator Bill Daly was equally surprised.
